Yoga day celebrations at Siachen
The International Yoga Day on Tuesday was celebrated by the Indian soldiers at Siachen Glacier. Siachen being the highest battlefield in the world has its special significances. With accordance to this, a statement from the military said, “The army’s Fire & Fury Corps at Siachen, Leh, Kargil and other forward posts in Jammu and Kashmir conducted yoga asanas or exercises.”
As the Indian Army incorporated yoga asanas into their daily routine, the event is also giving an impetus to physical fitness, the event was meant to popularize yoga and spread awareness on its benefits.
"Practice of yoga by soldiers in such an environment helps them to combat various diseases such as high altitude sickness ... psychological stresses of isolation and fatigue," said an officer.
The yoga sessions were organized by trained instructors who shared their experiences and studies with the army.
