Siddiqui praised at Cannes
Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0 was praised at the 69th Cannes Film Festival. The film is based on the infamous serial killer who terrorized Mumbai in the mid-1960s. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is a regular the film festival, was praised for his acting. Siddiqui plays the protagonist of the story and Vicky Kaushal plays a police officer.
Before the screening on Monday, Kashyap tweeted, “"First screening has begun... House is packed ... Hmmmmm.”
Raman Raghav 2.0 also earned international praise: hollywoodreporter.com said “Siddiqui’s demented serial killer ups the scare ante” and variety.com said that “the verve and nerve of Kashyap’s filmmaking continues to excite.” The actor received a standing ovation at the screening.
Raman Raghav 2.0 is the eighth film of Nawazuddin at the gala in four years. Among his other films to be screened at Cannes are The Lunchbox, Gangs of Wasseypur, Miss Lovely and Liar's Dice. He did seven films as an actor and produced a short film – they are all at the festival.
Directed by his brother Shamas Siddiqui, Myan Kal Aana, his debut at production was also screened at the festival.
Stars like Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor are also present at Cannes which will go on till May 22nd, Sunday.
The thriller is set to release on June 24th, 2016 in India.
