The benchmark indices on Thursday posted gains with the BSE Sensex rising 184.29 points to close at 28,208.62, while the NSE Nifty gained 50.50 points to settle at 8,666.30.

Markets remained upbeat as the Cabinet on Wednesday cleared changes in the GST bill, analysts said.

Asian Paints ended as the major gainer while Tata Steel was the major loser.
