Cisco Systems is laying off about 14,000 employees, nearly 20% of the US-based network equipment maker’s global workforce, technology news site CRN has reported.

Cisco requires “different skill sets” for the “software-defined future” than it did in the past, the CRN report said citing a source.

The company has already offered early retirement packages to several employees, the site reported.
