New Audi S5 - Beautiful and precise!
The sports car segment in India has not been blooming for the fact that the vehicle is meant only for those who have passion and don’t look for utility. But now, the German brand Audi has come up with something that fulfil both aspects: Audi S5 In terms of design, the S5 has got that sporty and aggressive look apart from ample space for luggage. This is a four-door version and on the front, you get the standard grille and headlights.
The car is fitted with 18-inch alloys and 245-section tyres, which give the true essence. The side profile is superb with the sloped roof and well-designed edges. At the rear, you would be appealed by the lipspoiler, the large tail lamps and the chrome tipped quad exhausts. Overall, the new S5 has the right ingredients to score best in design and look. As you step inside, the sportier feel increases because of the layout of the dashboard, the amount of carbon fibre used, the S-tronic gear lever and the flat steering wheel.
The arrangement of the clocks and the MMI controls is similar to those of the previous version. The front seats are quite accommodating and the controls are in nice reach. Though you cannot call it a spacious car the fact that even rear seat passengers can adjust comfortably makes up for it. There are many features you get and in the high end version, notable accessories are the Nappa leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, foglights, tri-zone automatic climate control, Xenon headlights, 10 speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with iPod integration, rear parking camera, Audi side assist, adaptive cruise control, Audi drive select and many others.
Once you open the bonnet, you will see that the Audi S5 is fitted with a 3.0 litre supercharged V6 motor and this ensures you get a peak power of 333/PS and the maximum torque it touches is 441/Nm. The specialty of this engine is, it has the Eaton-sourced supercharger which is placed between the cylinder banks. The peak torque comes at 2900/rpm and can go upto 6000/rpm. This is mated to a S-tronic 7-speed dual clutch transmission and the gear shift is butter smooth.
Even at high speeds, the rev of the engine is extremely refined and you can hardly feel a thing. You can touch the 0 to 100/kmph mark in just 5.8 seconds due to the linear torque curve. You also have four drive modes- individual, efficiency, dynamic and comfort. The overall ride and handling quality are impressive, egging you to drive faster because of assured stability in sharp turns and steep bends. You can have the full control even at best speeds.
Though the new S5 doesn’t have adjustable suspensions, it does have the ability to handle rough terrain, potholes and the customary bumps you find on Indian roads. It has a low stance but still the ground clearance is good and so is the length. You can expect the fuel efficiency to about 9/kmpl. As for the price, the new S5 is available at Rs 62.95 lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai. So, if you are seeking a fast luxury sedan with a sportscar feel then this is the one.
