Brahmins up in arms against MLA Bonda
Vijayawada : Brahmin associations across Andhra Pradesh on Saturday threatened prolonged agitations for justice to the community. A large number of Brahmins gathered before the Machavaram police station in Vijayawada strongly protesting against the 'illegal' arrest of their leader Jaganmohan Raju at the behest of TDP leader and Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Uma. The agitating Brahmins alleged that their leader Jaganmohan Raju was taken into custody as he has demanded that loans for the eligible community members be sanctioned by the Brahmin Welfare Corporation.
They said that the corporation is looking after the interests of only selective persons in the State and the funds sanctioned for the body are going into their pockets. Except making publicity, the corporation is actually not working for the interests of the community, they said, and demanded that chairman of the Brahmin Welfare Corporation IYR Krishna Rao, if he is really committed to the welfare of the community, respond immediately to the arrest of Jaganmohan Raju.
They alleged that Corporation Chief Executive Officer Abhijit lodged a complaint with the Machavaram police against Jaganmohan Raju only at the behest of Bonda Uma. Both of them are nursing a grudge against Raju as he is organising the Navarathri celebrations in the city, they said.
Threatening that the entire Brahmin community will come onto the roads if Jaganmohan Raju is not released immediately, the agitating leaders sought the interference of IYR Krishna Rao in this regard.
