M2M is future of next gen internet: Ravi Shankar Prasad

The Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications will have a profound impact on all aspects of common man and will result in extensive social and economic benefits for consumers, businesses, citizens and government, stated union Communication and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday.

As the government is focusing on digital empowerment, the minister said that the M2M technologies play a key role and all the stakeholders must be provided guidance to cultivate M2M communications while releasing the National Telecom M2M Roadmap.

M2M is the future of the next generation internet that connects 10 times more devices through internet.

The minister also said that all the concerned agencies must join hands to build the basic infrastructure that is needed to be put in place as soon as possible.

"Standardization of M2M roadmap becomes more important, as the country heads towards setting up 100 smart cities and introducing digitalization all over the country," he asserted.

M2M applications comprise of healthcare, tele-education, smart grid, smart building and smart city that can make mark in the socio-economic development in the country, the minister added.
