Indian rail chugs into Google Maps

Google on Tuesday rolled out an update in the Transit feature of Google Maps for 8 Indian cities, by adding the information regarding the Indian Railways and public transport system.
 
These updated features are now available for access via Google Maps apps for Android and iOS as well as Google Maps for Desktop.
 
"Google Transit is part of our effort to make Google Maps more comprehensive, accurate and useful for millions of people around the world who take buses, trains, metros or trams to their next destination. We hope that the addition of the Indian Railways schedules pan India and updated information for eight cities to Google Transit in India will make it a little easier to plan your next trip" said Suren Ruhela, Director, Program Management, Google Maps.

The feature will now show schedules for around 12,000 trains and public transport system information such as bus and metro routes for Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune.

Detailing the feature, Google says users have to enter the destination in Google Maps and click on the Get Directions button and then select the public Transit icon to find which metro train or bus is available near to the select destination.
