Reiterating its stand on citizen-friendly and responsive policing, the city police on Wednesday launched a mobile app ‘Hawk Eye’ to empower people to report crime and traffic violations with the touch of a button.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said, "By using the mobile app, citizens can register details of servants/workers/tenants with police, enroll for community policing and have access to all contact numbers of police, get status report on information furnished and also expose violations by police personnel.

The app can ensure the safety of women while travelling in a taxi, cab, auto rickshaw, bus, train or any other vehicle. "A woman just clicks the photograph or video of the vehicle before boarding, notes down vehicle no., place of boarding and sends it online to police. Even during travel, if there is any problem, the same can be done. After reaching the destination, they can send comments about the travel,” he said. He added the SOS button in the app would be useful for accessing police help during emergencies.

"In any state of distress, emergency and exigency, once this button is pressed, the pre-recorded message will go to pre-determined friends and relatives (5) and also simultaneously based on the longitude and latitude of the location of the person, the message will reach the concerned Inspector of police station, ACP, DCP, patrol mobiles and main control room.”

Since approaching a police station to report petty crimes is a cumbersome process, the app would facilitate citizens to report the same at the click of a button. It has sub-categories of various aspects of violations like traffic violations, happening crimes, crimes against women, and violations by the police. He added that Android mobile users can download through Google Play store whereas iOS device users can download it through the app store.
