Being happy is choice we all have

Aditya Mehta / International Para-Cycling champion : I think I have an advantage over many people - I'm a born optimist. I believe in the power of positive thinking. Clean, pure and positive thoughts help focus on important things in life, such as the goals we set for ourselves. I also believe that no other person can make you happy or sad. Anger, hate, hurt and happiness – they cannot be served to you by other people. You have it all in you and this is manifested at different turns of life.

Being happy is not a blessing bestowed on a few lucky people. It is a choice we all have. If I can be happy even after losing my leg in an accident, what stops you from smiling? Just like me, you must have gone through some tragic moments in your life. But remember, it is these very circumstances that bring out the best in us. All we need is a belief in ourselves and the ultimate goodness of the world, and we can come out of any situation – however terrible – stronger than before. Every day is an opportunity to learn and grow, and every person we meet has something to teach us, if we wish to learn.

My inspiration and hero has always been my father. He is more than just my father; he is my strength and my dearest friend. Today's youth is proactive and takes a positive approach towards life. I see the young full of positive energy today; it makes me happy. My advice to the youth is to keep their positive energy alive, and stay honest and truthful in all aspects of life.

I advise the youth to maintain a healthy and loving relationship with their parents, as nobody can love you like your parents. Making your parents happy brings true happiness to one’s life, so be happy and stay happy!
