Daily acts of corruption can't be overlooked

Jayaprakash Nambaru Environmental activist, founder of iGoGreen Foundation: We seem to think little of our daily wrongs. We are involved in some corrupt practice or form of bribery every day; we tend to think this is okay and that we aren’t harming anybody. But these daily, small acts of corruption are indirectly responsible for the success of several mafias that are involved in illegal businesses. Only with cleanliness inside us can we clean up our environment and our culture.

"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop."
- Confucius

We have even polluted our climate; the rhythm of seasons has been gravely disturbed because of this. For the climate and the environment to change for the better, man must change first. We are today obsessed with the material; we work so hard to buy gold for our children. How come we don’t work hard to provide clean air, water and poison-free food for our children? Will gold improve their life while the air they breathe is highly poisoned? More than any material gifts, our children need a swachh environment which only comes if we adopt a swachh mindset.

The youth also needs to create a balance in life. I see youngsters giving up studies for some good causes, while other youngsters give up social causes for studies. There needs to be a balance, one cannot take an extreme stand in life without negative consequences. Develop a questioning attitude. When one asks why things are the way they are, answers will be easier to find. Parents and children must both participate in social causes and children must keep up with academic demands of the times also.
