Stuttgart: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis lost their first competitive match as women’s doubles team, crashing out of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix here.
The top seeded Indo-Swiss pair lost 3-6 3-6 to Croatia's Petra Martic and Stephanie Vogt from Liechtenstein in the first round of the USD 731,000 event.
Martic and Vogt were playing together for the first time and had one Women's Tennis Association (WTA) doubles title between them.
Martina was not at her physical peak during the match and was treated for a back injury.
The Indo-Swiss pair are currently No.1 doubles team on the leaderboard for the season-ending WTA championships -the BNP Paribas WTA Finals - to be held in October-November in Singapore, this year.
The indo-Swiss pair lost three straight games from 3-all to drop the first set. They made progress in the second set, going up 2-0 with an early break but the first-time pairing of Martic and Vogt fought back, made it 2-all, and easily clinched the set and the match.
