Wokingham gets its first Sikh mayor
Indian origin man Parvinder Singh Batth shines bright in United Kingdom. Batth has been elected as the Mayor of Britain's Wokingham Borough Council, according to media reports on Friday. He is the first Sikh to hold the privileged position of Mayor for the term of 2015-2016.
While taking charge of the new post, Batth said, "Being born in Punjab to a farming family, I come from a humble background. However I now feel even more humbled being chosen as the new mayor.” Batth further thanked his wife for her enormous support.
Batth named ‘Arc’, which is an organization that aims to transform the lives of children, as this year's chosen charity.
