The nation has been baking under the hottest temperatures since April and the scorching heat has claimed up to 750 lives in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, as per reports on Tuesday.

Over the last few weeks, the heat wave in Telangana and AP has stood on staggering temperatures. Out of the 750, about 551 have died in AP and the rest in Telangana due to sunstroke or dehydration.

YK Reddy of Meteorological department stated that though parts of Telangana were recorded hottest, it is not unusually high temperature. The persistence of such temperature for 3-4 days is what has caused a lot of harm.

The weather office stated that the northwesterly dry and hot winds are responsible for the heat wave, made worse by clear skies in the region. But the direction is now changing, so there could be some respite after a few more days.

Officials have warned that the toll may rise as data is being collected in some parts of Telangana.

The authorities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have issued a red alert and are suggesting labourers and others not to work between 11:30 and 4 in the afternoon.
