Nine bogies of Muri Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday afternoon. Though reports of few deaths and injuries are arriving, exact number of victims is not known

As per initial reports, Train No. 18109 from Rourkela in Odisha to Jammu Tawi derailed 3 kilometres from Sirathu railway station at around 2 pm. Sirathu station falls in the Allahabad-Kanpur central section of the busy Delhi-Howrah route.

As the railway administration is yet to reach the accident spot in full strength, local villagers from nearby areas are at the forefront of rescue efforts.

Medical teams have been dispatched from Allahabad, reports added.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia for the victims of the accident and instructed UP chief secretary to provide them with all the necessary assistance.
