'A Beautiful Mind' snapped
In a tragic accident, Nobel laureate and American mathematician John Nash and his wife Alicia died this weekend in a car crash in New Jersey. Nash was 86.
Nash's outstanding contribution to the field of mathematics in game theory, differential geometry, and partial differential equations provided an insight into complex systems of chance in daily life.
The Nobel Laureate and his wife were travelling in a taxi on the New Jersey Turnpike road, when the taxi driver lost control and crashed into a guard rail. They were on the way to their residence near Princeton University after flying from Oslo, where Mr Nash was honoured with a prize for mathematics from King Harald V.
Nash's story inspired the Academy Award winning film 'A Beautiful Mind' which starred Russel Crowe. Crowe, who was stunned on hearing about the unfortunate incident, tweeted, "My heart goes out to John & Alicia & family. An amazing partnership. Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts."
