The sinister ways of Boko Haram

Now how many of us haven’t sat around a table and discussed how terribly radical and inhumane terrorist groups like Boko Haram are? How the governments are callous and don’t seem to pay any heed to the people who are being massacred on a regular basis? But there is one thing that slips everyone’s mind. How do they do it? How do a group of people who form into an association from nowhere carry out all their activities? What is their Modus Operandi?

Boko Haram has been tormenting people living in Nigeria on a day to day basis. A survey has stated that 70% of the eight million illegal weapons in West Africa are found in Nigeria. The weapons were smuggled into Nigeria through the neighbouring countries of Cameroon, Niger, Benin and Chad. In that case, the government should work on their border security force. But hold on. There is more.

The very first concern for the Nigerian government is probably the non recognition of borders. In the Admawa State of Nigeria alone there are twenty five illegal routes which pave way for trespassing. The porous borders make it even more impossible for the government to keep check on terrorist groups because of its density.

The smuggling of weapons is carried out through specially crafted skin or thatched bags attached to camels, donkeys etc. Beneath this skin, lie the weapons of mass destruction. So any nomadic pastoralist or herdsman you spot on the Nigeria border could very well be a terrorist in disguise.

Transnational trafficking continues to be a huge concern for governments of various countries. During the Libyan upraising, weapons such as SAM-7 and many other aircrafts went missing. These weapons were smuggled through the Sahel region into Nigeria. Another method employed by terrorists to smuggle weapons is Tunneling.

Terrorist groups are also known to indulge in organ harvesting. After beheading their hostages, they go on to cut out their body parts which are likely to fetch money and this is sold in the West. Remember the Chibok girls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram last year? They can vouch for acts of organ harvesting carried out by these terrorists.

Now that Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance to ISIS, people all over the world live in dread. Two of the most inhumane and savage groups have come together and this can only mean the exploitation of the underprivileged ever more than before.
