Special status denied to Andhra Pradesh

The cat is out of the bag now. Union minister Rao Indrajit Singh on Friday categorically stated in the Parliament that there is no question of according Special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The Union minister of state for defence and planning tabled this statement in reply to questions raised by MPs Maganti Babu and Kotha Prabhakar Reddy. He said that the special status cannot be accorded under the 14th finance commission. The union minister's reply has evoked people's ire and sparked a series of protests in Andhra Pradesh.

During the bifurcation, ever BJP leader and union minister Venkaiah Naidu had demanded for a special status for the state and said that according the special status was possible. However, people of Andhra Pradesh did not expect this sudden U-turn by the government.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP is blaming TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu for causing disappointment to people.

TDP has also received flak from Congress for failure in getting special status for Andhra Pradesh.
