Kalpakam Yechury, who is mother of CPM’s new general secretary Sitaram Yechury, says she fights with God all the time. "He [God] doesn’t shout, scold and if we say something, he will listen. Lord Ganesh is my friend and I take him for granted. But my son [Sitaram Yechury] doesn’t believe in God. After he was named as general secretary, one of my cousins asked me to break 11 coconuts and put Rs 11 in the Hundi,” said Kalpakam.

The 83 year-old, who resides in the national capital, added that every summer she goes to Kakinada to prepare Avakai [Mango pickle] for the family members. When asked about Sitaram’s food habits, Kalpakam said, he likes ‘Andhra Bhojanam’ a lot, but he hardly has time and whenever he gets free time, he pays her a visit.
