Provide Basic Facilities in Courts: Bombay HC

The Bombay High Court has severely criticised the Maharashtra government for their delay in providing basic facilities like toilets and water coolers in courts. The Litigants Association of Maharashtra had filed a PIL claiming that basic facilities like toilets and water are not available in several courts. Though Maharashtra government had sanctioned Rs 5.38 crore in August last year for providing basic facilities in the courts, the Public Works Department released the funds on only March 2 this year.

The high court has directed the Finance Secretary to come up with a solution to utilise the funds and adjourned the next hearing to Tuesday.
