Leaders pay homage at Rajiv Gandhi's memorial on his 24th Death anniversary
Former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi was remembered on his 24th death anniversary with several leaders paying homage at his memorial on Thursday in Delhi.
The late PM’s wife and Congress President Sonia Gandhi was accompanied by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra, the family offered flowers at his memorial 'Vir Bhumi.’
A tweet by Narendra Modi says: "Paying tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary."
PM Modi, Former PM Manmohan Singh and a number of party leaders including PC Chacko, Oscar Farnandes, Gulam Nabi Azad, Ajay Maken and many others paid tributes to the leader.
The programme began with Morning Raga that was recited by Ripesh Mishra and Rajneesh Mishra.
It was then followed by playing an audio excerpt of a speech delivered by Rajiv Gandhi calling upon people for "building bridges, sinking differences and fighting for freedom" and talking about "awareness of younger generation."
After concluding the programme at Vir Bhumi, the Gandhi family arrived at Shakti Sthal, memorial of late Indira Gandhi, to pay their homage.
Rajiv Gandhi was the sixth and youngest PM of India. He was assassinated on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu during a poll campaign.
