The foundation stone for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh is likely to be laid on June 6. The State government has zeroed in on the auspicious time of 8.49 am on June 6 (Saturday) to start work on the new capital and the place decided on is Tullur, the very heart of the capital.

"Tentatively, it is on June 6 at 8.49 am. It is (yet) to be (finally) decided," State Information and IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said here on Monday.

Sources at the State Secretariat said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would be laying the foundation stone himself. They added that neither were other Union Ministers nor leaders from its alliance partner, the BJP, expected to attend the function. Till now, there has been no official confirmation of any Union Minister attending the programme.

Naidu’s Cabinet colleagues, top TDP leaders and local public representatives will be present on the occasion. MLAs and MLCs from across the AP political spectrum are being invited, sources said.
