Families of the suspected red sandal smugglers, who were killed in the Tirupati encounter and later reported to daily wage labourers from Tamil Nadu, have been granted a compensation of Rs 3 lakh each by the Tamil Nadu government, under the Chief Minister's relief fund.

The Tamil Nadu government has also sent police teams to Tirupati to identify the dead bodies and bring them back to the state.

The political parties of Tamil Nadu have demanded constitution of a joint committee by the Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu police, to investigate whether it was a murder or an encounter.
