Salman convicted in hit-and-run case
Actor Salman Khan has been convicted in the 2002 hit-and-run case. He was being tried under the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder which is punishable with imprisonment up to 10 years.
The court pronounced its verdict on Wednesday. The actor came to the session court with his family members, who had expressed hopes and prayed that everything goes well.
Meanwhile, just hours before the verdict one of the victims of the accident had said that he wanted compensation for his living, rather than punishment for Salman.
"We want compensation but don't want him (Salman Khan) punished. Even if he gets some punishment, it won't give back our 13 years,” Abdullah Shaikh, who lost his leg in the accident, was quoted as saying by an online portal.
However, before the verdict public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said, "In coming hours court will pronounce it's verdict. We have tried to bring the truth and placed all facts in front of the court".
One person was killed and four others were injured in the accident which occurred in 2002.
