The central secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has congratulated the working class and employees for the “most successful” general strike all over the country on the call of Central Trade Unions. In a pressnote here on Friday, party general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy stated there was bandh like situation in many States as the banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, telecommunication, coal, steel, mining sectors, State and Central government employees went on strike.

Crew of many State transport corporations also joined the strike making the general strike almost total. “This is a rebuff on the anti-worker and anti-employee policy of the Union government. The pro-corporate government was continuing its policy of appeasement of corporate and big business houses and MNCs at the cost of the working class”, he added.

“Let the government realize that Human Development Index is more important than the magic figures of DGP growth rate. Many stormy battles will be fought if the government failed to mend its policies”, he added. The CPI leader urged the Union government to initiate dialogue with Central trade unions and solve their justified demands at the earliest.
