Indians today are becoming more and more sensitive about their homes and they want nothing less than perfect. For this simple reason, people are willing to spend fortunes on interior designing, to get a classic décor to their homes. People have started to get their homes designed by professionals.
This has encouraged many to take up interior designing as a profession. Celebrities are always considered as role models. In regard to interior designing, there are a few top celebrity designers who with their international home trends are popular in the country. Though known as the celebrity wives, these women have established themselves as successful interior designers. These celebrity designers are known to have established international home trends with contemporary Indian home décor without losing the touch of their interpretations.
Gauri Khan: She is the famous wife of Shah Rukh Khan. She has made her place as an entrepreneur and designer. She started off by helping her friend Suzanne Khan and now she is the owner of her very own brand the Design Cell. Gauri khan says that staying curious about things keeps her inspired and helps her describe her designs in a precise manner. “I am truly passionate about designing. I love walking into an empty room and imaging what it could be. My inspiration comes from travelling to different locations. Staying curious keeps me inspired” she was quoted as saying. Her love for designing started off in her school going days and continued as a hobby for many years. In an interview to vogue magazine she was quoted as saying, “I started off as an artist in school with various sketches. I continued that as a hobby for many years and I think that is where my designs come from”. Her first experience as a designer was when she designed ‘Mannat’, her house in Mumbai.
Twinkle Khanna: Better known as Mrs Funnybones, she is married to the ‘khiladi kumar’ of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar. Twinkle Khanna tried her hand in films but later gave up and followed her passion designing. She opened her own décor store in 2002 - The White Window, the store is a collection of astonishing, realistic and stylish home accessories. Twinkle Khanna, is known to be a perfectionist, who likes to blend unique furniture pieces. Her designs are rather modest and understated with minimal artistic designs. She believes in making a place plush and opulent. Twinkle Khanna co-owns the store with Gurlein Manchanda, a professional interior designer.
Mana Shetty: She is Suniel Sheety’s wife and takes pride being an independent individual apart from a celebrity wife. Mana Shetty is person with multi-facets, she runs an interior store, designs homes and runs an NGO called ‘Save the children India’. She has carved a niche for herself and is recognized in the realms of interiors.
Suzanne Khan: This ex-celebrity wife has an Associate of Arts degree in interior design from Brooks College in California. Before she started her project the Charcoal Project along with Gauri Khan, she had hands on experience in designing while working with her mother’s interior firm. Suzanne Khan believes in adding a touch of old charm to make her designs a little fancy. She explains that when she visualizes an empty space she dreams of adding a little life to the space to the best of its ability. While talking about her inspiration behind the Charcoal Project, she was quoted as saying, “Space can be grey and lifeless; charcoal is ugly. But when you light it, it sparks up. When a designer or person ignites a site or project it almost glows, as life is breathed into it. Design is a feeling. It elevates you. It makes you feel good. It is also designing your thoughts, and about how to deal with certain situations in your life.”
