City of Nizams emerges as leading education hub

Hyderabad has emerged as an ideal education hub with the presence of a number of elite institutions in and around the city. Today, the city of Nizams is home to some of the best educational institutes in India.

Metro India gives guidance on some of the renowned educational institutes and about the courses they offer:

1.University of Hyderabad

Popularly called HCU or UoH, the University of Hyderabad is a premiere institute known for its post graduate and research courses. With over 5,000 students and 400 faculty, University of Hyderabad has been granted top grade A ***** by NAAC. It has recently won the President's Visitors Award 2015 for 'Best University' in India.

UGC has rated UoH as the University with Potential. Located in 1,700 acres of lush green campus, UoH is also famous for its rich fauna and flora. UoH has 46 different Departments and 12 Schools of study. Students, who have completed intermediate can enroll in its five year undergraduate study program, the first of its kind in India. Recently, a School of Economics has been established here.

UoH, admissions are based on a national level entrance exam conducted in March.

2.IIT Hyderabad

Located in Medak district, IIT Hyderabad offers undergraduate, masters and research programs in Engineering, Science, Mathematics and Humanities.
Envisioned as a technical university, IIT Hyderabad has nine engineering departments. They are:

3.Osmania University

Established in 1918, it was the first University in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad. Today, it is one of the largest Universities in India, with hundreds of campus colleges and affiliated colleges under its control. Currently, the University offers: 25 Undergraduate Programs, 75 post graduate programs and 27 diplomas. Osmania’s beautiful campus is spread over 1300 Acres. Thousands of students from India and abroad enroll every year to its courses. Currently, the University has 12 faculties, 53 departments, 638 teaching staff and 2428 Non-teaching staff.

The university library, is one of the oldest libraries in the city. It has a rich collection of about 5,00,000 books and over 6000 manuscripts including priceless palm leave manuscripts. The university also provides amenities to deserving students like free coaching for Civil Services and UPSC exams. The library has about 400 periodicals, journals, government documents, microfilms and CD ROMS.

4.English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU)

EFLU is a central university set up to promote the study of English and other foreign languages. The university campus boasts a metropolitan environment. It has various foreign languages departments that offer graduate, masters and research programs. It also offers distance education courses and B Ed courses for out station students. Recently the University has launched campuses in Shillong, Malapuram and Lucknow.
