AP to introduce Kuchipudi into class rooms

Andhra Pradesh government announced Kuchipudi will be made a compulsory subject in all state syllabus schools from Class V to VIII, from the coming academic year.

Theory classes for Kuchipudi will be made compulsory for students, while practical may be optional.

"Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu wanted to encourage Kuchipudi dance form, and has given nod to introduce Kuchipudi to high school students," stated officials here.

According to sources, dance lessons of the classical art form have been prepared by Dr Vedantam Ramal inga Sastri, principal of Siddendra Yogi Kuchipudi Kalakshetram from Krishna district.

The teaching modules were sent to the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) for approval and the state officials were waiting for the SCERT’s approval in this regard, they added.
