A recent survey has found that more than half of the students who make it to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) hail from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

According to recent studies, out of 9,700 applicants who qualified for the IIT, 5,500 were from the CBSE. CBSE students dominated over 56 per cent of the total number of students joining the IITs.

Education experts say there are five reasons why CBSE students dominate the IITs exams are:

1.The CBSE has got numerical advantage over other institutions; more CBSE students qualify the Class 12th board exam than the students of all the other boards combined.
In 2012-2013,more than 6.99 lakhs students appeared in the CBSE class XII exam.
2. CBSE enjoys geographical advantage, having more CBSE schools located in the metros and major cities.
3. Metro cities have competitive IIT coaching centres that start training to students from an early stage.
2. Course syllabus of CBSE, gives students a solid foundation to face IIT examination.
3. CBSE Course is more focussed on reasoning and analytic skills than routine memorizing of the facts.
