Police launch CCTV safe city project

In a bid to make Hyderabad smart and safe city, the city police on Friday launched 'Community CCTV - Nigha Netram' project at Barkatpura Housing Board Colony Association on Friday. City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy who launched the safe community project said that residents of the locality have pooled in over Rs 8.25 lakh to install 16 CCTV cameras in their community.

The commissioner said that boom barricades have been erected at four entries and exits while all six entry and exit points were provided with electronic surveillance. The footage of the CC cameras can also be seen by the residents of the association on their mobile phones round the clock, he said.

The safe community project would soon start various places in city police commissionerate including Tirumala Hills Colony in Malakpet, Badi Chowdi in Sultan bazar, Saibaba Temple lane at DD Colony in Amberpet, the officer said.

He said that it has been planned to being over 60 to 70 per cent of the city commissionerate under electronic surveillance within a span of six to nine months, with the involvement of communities.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Mahender Reddy said that the public are appealed to install CCTV cameras in their community as a preventive measure. He also said that CC Cameras have been playing crucial role in prevention and detection of crimes.
