Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod on Thursday said that the biggest achievement of Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre is the changed environment in the Prime Minister’s Office, whose image was mauled during UPA’s ten-yearrule. The Union minister, who was in the city to present a report card onBJP’s one-year rule at the Centre, dismissed allegations that the NDA government had turned its ministersto dummies and toys.

He said that the respect for the Prime Minister’s Office has been restored under the present rule. “At least the Prime Minister is taking decisions now. The allegations now are that ministers are toys,” he said. Stating that the country had voted for change Rathod said, “We could create confidence among people that we are going ahead in the right direction.

All the mistakes of 60 years cannot be corrected in one year, but a beginning has been made in the right direction with utmost transparency,” said Rathod. He said that Sushma Swaraj was taking up India’s point of view with grace. “Her name figures in the list of best performing ministers, which has been compiled by several magazines,” he added.

Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy had alleged that ministers were made ‘dummy’ and senior leader L K Advani was made ‘mummy’. Rathod said, “Advaniji is at such an age where he can give guidance and direction. Ministers can work hard for 20 out of 24 hours. If mummy and papa are there (referring to Jaipal Reddy’s criticism), then more such words can be attached to Congress party.

They keep on saying ‘soot-boot ki sarkar’, then we can also say that their government was ‘loot-phoot ki sarkar’. He reminded that during 2013 the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had travelled to so many countries similar to that of Narendra Modi, but the latter is showing his presence.

Replying to a query, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to take everyone along and believes in working as a team which also comprised Chief Ministers. Chief Ministers have been made a part of the newly constituted planning body ‘Niti Ayog’ and given a role in policy formulation, he said.

He highlighted the substantial revenue generated through coal blocks and spectrum allocation, foreign policy initiatives that enhanced the prestige of India in the neighbourhood and on the world stage, the innovative social security schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Suraksha Yojana among the major achievements of NDA in its first year.
