Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday instructed officials to find important works that were necessary to be carried out immediately for storing water in tanks being renovated under Mission Kakatiya programme as the monsoon is round the corner.

Addressing the officials through video conference, the minister said that he noticed that only de-silting works were going on and other works were not being taken up. He made it clear that all the works being stipulated by the government should be carried out at a time. Harish told the officials to contact those who adopted the tanks and ask them to start the works. He said that responsibility of ensuring quality in the works was with the engineers who were supervising the works. He said that works should not be stopped for the arrival of quality control engineers.

The minister accepted the proposal of the officials to provide vehicles to visit the far off villages and also said that the works should be equally distributed among the engineers. Harish Rao said that Ranga Reddy district was lagging behind in taking up the works and told the concerned officials to expedite them. He appreciated districts like Khammam, Warangal and Nalgonda for being in the frontline in carrying out the works.

Irrigation Department principal secretary S K Joshi said that all the details of the tanks being taken up under Mission Kakatiya should be uploaded to the website. He told the chief engineers to check the gradient while taking up de-silting works. Engineer-in-chief Vijay Prakash said the soil should not be put on the edges of the bunds and should lay one layer after the other after due rolling.
