A call centre employee was robbed of her gold jewellery, cellphone and ATM card by an unidentified person after he shot at her inside an SBI ATM in Madhuranagar on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at around 7.45 am when the employee, identified as 24-year-old Sri Lalitha, went to withdraw money from an ATM next to her hostel in Madhuranagar. Investigation revealed that there was no security guard at the ATM at the time of the incident.

“The armed man had covered his face with a handkerchief. When the woman entered the ATM centre, he suddenly came from behind and demanded she give up the valuables. When she refused, he fired on the wall and after terrorising her took away her gold chain and earrings (weighing around 20 grams),” S R Nagar Police Station Inspector G V Ramana Goud said.

West Zone DCP A Venkateswar Rao who visited the scene of the incident added that the attacker demanded the PIN number of the woman’s ATM card and then fled the spot. “We have formed three special teams to identify and nab the robber. We have collected CCTV camera footage and are analysing it. The accused seems to be an old offender,” he said.

When asked about withdrawal records from the debit card after the incident, he said, “So far, we have inputs that the accused has withdrawn amounts from two different ATMs in the city. We are investigating the matter.”
