Mayor aims at single-digit rank in Swachh Bharat
GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan has asked the staff members and officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to strive hard to make Hyderabad ‘open defecation-free’ city.
Addressing a day-long workshop for all zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners, executive engineers and AMOHs, the Mayor said that the officials should focus on resolving the problems being faced by the people. He said focus should be on providing bio-toilets and people should be encouraged to have individual toilets in their houses. He said GHMC should implement the works on the guidelines given by the central government under Swachh Bharat and try to get best rank.
Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy spoke.
The purpose of the workshop was to explain the criteria prescribed by the Government of India under Swachh Bharat Mission for ranking of cities. The GHMC, which was ranked 273 in 2015, was able to improve its ranking to 19 in 2016 through initiatives like ‘Parichayam’, ICE activities, elimination of ‘garbage vulnerable points’, etc. The Mayor emphasised that all should strive to get single-digit rank in the next ranking.
