Toddy tappers get `5.68 cr compensation

Excise Minister T Padma Rao Goud disbursed Rs 5.68 crore among 671 beneficiaries belonging to Nalgonda, Warangal, Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy districts and Rs 35 lakh among 41 beneficiaries belonging to Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Medak districts in a programme held at Ravindra Bharati on Monday.

Besides, 1,524 toddy tappers who suffered minor injuries in accidents, include falling from trees have been paid a compensation of Rs 1.52 at the rate of Rs 10,000 per head. The kin of deceased toddy tappers were given Rs 2 lakh as compensation while each of the toddy tappers who suffered permanent disability was given Rs 50,000.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao released Rs 7.70 crore to benefit 3,236 toddy tappers. Telangana State Legislative Council Chairman K Swamy Goud and senior bureaucrats Ajay Mishra (revenue), RVS Chandravadan (Excise) and others took part in the programme.
