Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday accused the State and central governments of formulating laws that are detrimental to the interests of workers.

He called upon the party rank and file to fight against the government in the true spirit of May Day as governments are sabotaging the interests of the working class and were busy protecting the interests of capitalists.

He was taking part as chief guest at the May Day celebrations held at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday under the aegis of INTUC. He hoisted the INTUC flag and greeted workers. TPCC labour wing president Prakash Goud presided over the function.

Claiming that the Congress right from the beginning always sided with the working class and fought for their rights, he said that it evolved laws for their benefit when in power.

He said that investments from overseas should flow into the country for its progress, however, he warned the state and central governments that the Congress would not remain a mute spectator if they formulate laws that reduce the people to slaves and gift away precious government lands to vested interests.

As the workers are responsible for the country’s progress, he assured workers that the Congress would continue to agitate taking up workers’ issues. The INTUC felicitated the best workers on the occasion.

TPCC official spokesperson Mallu Ravi assured the workers that Congress would always lend its support to the workers. Conveying his May Day greetings to them, he noted that the Congress when in power formulated laws to protect workers’ interests and when in the opposition, it agitated for the workers’ welfare. It was only Congress that always supports the cause of workers, he noted.
