GMR led consortium has bagged an award to construct 417 Km long Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor railway project on EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) basis.

The project, worth Rs 5,080 crore, is funded by world bank in 2 packages:

  •  From Mughalsarai to Karchana (near Allahabad) for 180 km
  •  From Karchana to Bhaupur (near Kanpur) for 237 km in Uttar Pradesh

The project is expected to be completed in 45 months, as it involves design and construction of civil, structures and track works for double line railway on design-build lump sum basis.

Creating the requisite rail transportation capacity, Eastern and Western rail freight corridor projects are expected to emerge as game changers.

Meanwhile, GMR Vemagiri Power Generation Limited (GVPGL) has resumed its operations by synchronization of APTRANSCO grid from April 2, 2015.

The plant is expected to generate power at 60 per cent plant load factor from the regasified liquefied natural gas that is made available by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments through GAIL India.

This arrangement is available till April 30, 2015 and may be extended depending on the requirement.
